James Johnson is an analyst in the Financial Stocks and Investment Funds team at Hardman & Co.
He has some 30 years’ experience working in the City, initially as an equity analyst specialising in banks and other financial stocks, including work on mergers & acquisitions and a major IPO, and was eventually responsible for a pan-European banks team; the role involved extensive investor and executive engagement. He then changed sides, joining Barclays’ Investor Relations, where the role involved close support of executive management, engagement across the breadth of the business and an in-depth knowledge of corporate strategy, accounting, governance and legal issues and listing rules; the Barclays team was one of the best regarded IR teams in the UK market and won many awards for its work with investors. He then worked variously in IR for a global mining company, a European bank – specifically a period in Treasury/debt IR – and a commercial property business.
James joined Hardman & Co in September 2021. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Banking & Finance, an MSc in Business Administration from Manchester Business School and a PhD in Economics from Loughborough University.
