John Holmes is Chairman of Hardman & Co.
He started his City career in 1966, working as a research analyst at Hoare & Co, and moved into institutional sales in 1973. He joined the partnership of Hoare Govett in 1976, setting up the firm’s operations in New York in 1982 to sell global equities to US institutional investors.
John returned to the UK in 1985, and became Managing Director of Morgan Grenfell Securities. He was also Managing Director of Morgan Stanley and Head of Equity Sales at Crédit Lyonnais Laing. There followed 10 years in executive search as a Partner in the Berwick Group and Head of the Financial Services Practice at Odgers Berndtson.
John was part of the group of investors that acquired Hardman & Co in late 2012. He holds a BA (Hons) in Politics and Economics from the University of York.
